Lorewo Trust was established in 1999 in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe as part of a UNDP/UNOPS pilot project to provide wheelchairs in less-resourced settings. It was designed to meet demand where there are resource limitations in service delivery for people with disabilities. Lorewo was officially handed over to the National Council of Disabled Persons in Zimbabwe in 2001 and became a registered Trust in 2016. Lorewo’s mission is to be a leader in the provision of high quality, affordable, and appropriate assistive technology in Zimbabwe. Its objectives include manufacturing and promoting the provision of assistive technology and posture support and providing adaptations, repairs and training to people with disabilities, caregivers, and personnel in the rehabilitation field.

Lorewo produces and provides wheelchairs and other devices for people with mobility challenges and collaborates with other stakeholders to diversify its product range. Another significant part of Lorewo’s service delivery is their seating services. Lorewo also trains other professionals in the rehabilitation field on the use and maintenance of assistive devices, conducts outreach services to support children with disabilities, and provides counseling for people with disabilities and their caregivers.
