Walkabout Foundation is a non-for-profit registered in the UK and the US since 2009 and 2011, respectively. Walkabout has been operational in Kenya since 2014. Walkabout Foundation Kenya’s mission is to restore dignity, freedom, and independence by providing wheelchairs and rehabilitation services in Kenya and the wider East Africa region. Located in Nanyuki town, Laikipia County, it serves as a hub for high quality wheelchair provision in Kenya and East Africa.
Walkabout Foundation Kenya provides locally repairable and appropriate wheelchairs to recipients in nearly half of the 47 counties in Kenya, it set up and operates a rehabilitation center for children and adults with disabilities, and established and runs a wheelchair assembly line with the majority of the workforce being wheelchair users.The rehabilitation center offers training and education for carers and service users to provide effective home therapy programs and 24-hour posture care management. It also offers a host of educational support groups both in early intervention and general intervention home care for children with disability.
